Building Your Own Visual Aid Online

You have chosen a 10,000 person Palette.

This tool is designed to show the number of people out of 10,000 who might be expected to experience some particular event. (And, at the same time, it shows the numbers who are not likely to be affected.)

To produce your own palette, first enter a main title and an optional subtitle.

For example,
Title: Likelihood of Heart Attack (MI) for patients with Psoriasis vs Controls (UK Data)
Subtitle: Showing the additional risk that occurs if patients have psoriasis

Title:
Subtitle:

Palettes often communicate most clearly when they display only one issue. (This is because the format actually shows two important pieces of information at the same time - both the positive and the negative perspective.)

However, many clients like to use their palettes with up to three risks displayed on the same sheet. For this reason, we offer you two different ways to build your Paling Palette© that enable you to focus attention on different aspects of your data. Our program gives you a choice.

Do you want the risks on your finished palette to be displayed as separate blocks showing the total number of people in each category as in Version A; or do you want your finished palette to display the differences between two related risks as seen in Version B?

Separate (version A)   Additive (version B)

Here is an example of the text used to make the demonstration "Separate" palette above.
Item 1. If you followed a group of 10,000 people without psoriasis for one year, 36 of them would have a heart attack (color red)
Item 2. If you followed a group of 10,000 people who had psoriasis for one year, 40 of them would have a heart attack (color blue)

Using the same basic data, here is the text used to make the "Additive" palette above.
Item 1. If you followed a group of 10,000 people without psoriasis for one year, 36 of them would have a heart attack (color red)
Item 2. If you followed a group of 10,000 people who did have psoriasis for one year, 4 more of them would have a heart attack (color blue)

Now click on which style you want to try first.

Click which style you want. (If you plan to display only one item, it does not matter which format you choose.)

You have chosen to use a "Separate" Palette.

Now to produce your own palette enter the text for up to 3 different but related risks.

NOTE that you can simply enter your numbers as likelihoods (e.g., 70 out of 3500) and the computer will estimate how that would show on your palette. (e.g., 200 out of 10000).

  Explanatory Text Likelihood Frequency Color
Item 1: in in 10,000

Use the fields below if you would like to enter more than one item per Palette.

  Explanatory Text Likelihood Frequency Color
Item 2: in in 10,000
Item 3: in in 10,000
